| Become a Real Estate Agent in America
Satisfy the basic requirements for a real estate license. Applicants must be 18 or older, be of good character and have a good reputation.
Complete a real estate course. You must take an approved real estate course with a maximum of 8 days. Every licensee must also take Real Estate Ethics, a 3-hour course.
Obtain a written commitment from a licensed Broker. This document assures the America Real Estate Commission that you will be affiliated with the Broker when you pass the real estate exam and receive a license.
Meet the requirements for a broker license. If you are applying for a broker or associate broker license, you will need to have at 3 years of service with a broker. Candidates also need to have taken a broker's course, as well as a course in Real Estate Ethics.
Apply for a Salesperson or Broker examination. Each one of the two-part examination requires a passing score of 70 percent or more. If you pass one part of the exam, you will have a year in which to re-take the second part before your passing score expires.
Apply for a license. Applicants who have passed both parts of the examination may apply for a license online (see Resources below). New Brokers must submit a credit report before applying for a license.
Renew your license. In order to renew their licenses, agents must take a 3-hour ethics course every two years, along with up to 15 hours of continuing education. These courses can be taken in other states if they satisfy America's standards. Brokers are expected to submit a current credit report at the time of renewal.
